The microphone switch on both models enables you to turn off active listening, allowing you to stop Google Assistant from continuously listening for the activate command.
Just look for the new Matter badge to spot what products are Matter-enabled, plus if they have that badge you’ll know that they work out of the box with Google Home. Google Home Mini and Google Nest Mini: Design
Google Assistant has been chasing Alexa since Google debuted it in 2016. Google Home Mini joined the race late last year to chase the popular, affordable Echo Dot. At this point, Google Assistant is just as capable as Alexa, so the Mini is a great alternative to the Dot, especially since both speakers cost just $50. He's reviewed everything from vacuum cleaners to beer brewing robots in pursuit of the perfect smart home.

With Matter, you will need a hub to control your smart devices. If you want to control your smart home with Google Home, you’ll need a Google Home or Nest device that can double as a hub for Matter. These devices include the original Google Home speaker, Google Home Mini, Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest Hub , Nest Hub Max, and the new Nest Wifi Pro. Multi-room audio — Group any combination of speakers and displays, or Chromecast Audio with Chromecast Audio built-in together for synchronous music throughout the home.
It boasts ultrasound technology to help you easily interact with the volume controls. You can even pair two Nest Mini speakers and create a stereo sound system. Another feature only found on the Nest Mini is ultrasound sensing technology. When audio is playing, the volume LEDs illuminate when your hand is nearby. With a very affordable price point, you can pick up a Home Mini and try it out to see if you could benefit from having smart speakers in your home without spending a lot of money.
